China Glaze Twinkle Collection Review - Part 1

Dear Nail Diary,

This is my first time reviewing a collection.  I'm a complete amateur, so I don't know all the technicalities and whatnot, so this will just be my honest opinion of how I thought they looked on me and how smooth the application was.  Also, I can't wait to get my new camera so my photos will come out clearer and the colours more accurate.  My current camera hates purples and greens. :(

Define Good...

Colour/Shade:
This is a beautifully rich burgundy shimmer.
I'm very particular about reds because of my skintone and I definitely prefer ones that lean on the cooler spectrum like this one.
Application:
The application was smooth, even and only needed two coats to match how it appeared in the bottle.
Would I wear it on it's own?
Probably.  It's a very grown-up colour, so I'd have to be in a pretty serious mood - which don't come along that often.

December To Remember

Colour/Shade:
Medium blue/grey metallic with lilac micro glitter
From a distance, the glitter gives off a frosty appearance, which you'd think in a winter/Christmas collection would be a good thing - however with this shade of blue it looks off with my skintone.  It's comes off looking like a metallic stonewash denim.
Application:
Smooth and even application. Two coats added a little more twinkle and a little less frost to the effect, but not enough for my liking.
Would I wear it on it's own?
Probably not.  As I said, this kind of frosty blue is totally wrong for me and I prefer my Barry M - Denim, which is a little darker.  I'm sure it will make some excellent nail art effects, though.

Meet Me Under The Stars

Colour/Shade:
Black sheer with silver and black glitter.
Application:
It's a thick polish, however it wasn't too difficult to work with and went on pretty even for a sheer.  You probably only need two coats, however I preferred three.  Although the glitters settle down after the second coat, you'll probably want to use a topcoat if you prefer a truly smooth surface - plus it will really make those "stars" shine!  Acetone or else a really good polish remover will be needed in the clean up of this one as those black glitters are persistent little wotsits.
Would I wear it on it's own?
Definitely.  Monos are my favourites to wear as a base, although it is a little too glitzy to wear day to day, but I like that look. :)

Dancing & Prancing

Colour/Shade:
Multi-Glitter. Pink, silver, blue, green, gold, copper hex glitters - clear base.
Very pretty and not as pink-centric as it appears in the bottle, which I'm pleased about.
Application:
The application was smooth with a good distribution of the glitter.  You get a good coverage from just the second coat.
Would I wear it on it's own?
Probably not, but only because I don't really wear glitters on their own.

No Peeking!

Colour/Shade:
Dusky plum shimmer.
Anything purple is usually a winner with me.
Application:
Smooth and even - only needed two coats to match how it appeared in the bottle.
Would I wear it on it's own?
Certainly.  As I said - it's purple.

I'd Melt For You

Colour/Shade:
Silver foil/chrome.  Close up it looks more like a foil, but once it's evened out and you've applied a topcoat you get and almost mirror effect.
I have several like this and they're perfect for stamping with.  I can tell I'm going to be doing many things with this polish!
Application:
Went on smooth and even with just a single coat, although I'd obviously recommend applying at least two.
Would I wear it on it's own?
Maybe, however I'd be more comfortable with other things (e.g. Dancing & Prancing) on top of at least one nail.

That's it for now as I await the delivery of the other half of the collection.

=:x
