Tutorial Tuesday - Inspirations (Part 1)

Dear Nail Diary,

Inspiration 1 - Cat Food Packet

My middle cat, Jake has been very unwell lately and has been put on a special diet with special brand of cat food.  The design of it inspired me to do this mani.

Things You'll Need:
  • Base Coat
  • White Nail Polish
  • Teal Green Nail Polish
  • Green Nail Polish
  • Nail Tape
  • Acetone/Nail Polish Remover
  • Angled/Makeup Brush
  • Top Coat

Step 1:
Apply your base coat and then paint two coats of your white polish.  I've used Barry M - White.  You can apply a quick dry top coat if you can't be bothered waiting for it to dry on it's own.

Step 2:
Once sufficiently dry, it's time to apply the nail striping tape.  Apply the first length horizontally across the nail, about 1/3 of the way down from your cuticle.  For the vertical lines, it's best to start from the outside and work your way in, as you want to leave plenty of room at the edges.

Step 3:
Once you've placed the tape exactly how you want it, it's time to paint your green polishes!  Start with your teal green at the top of the tape.  I've used Nails Inc - Haymarket.
Paint your darker green below that, careful not to paint over the teal!  I've used Nails Inc - Queen Victoria Street. Don't worry about any mess you might have made (see above!) as you can easily take care of this afterwards. Immediately, but very carefully remove the tape - I highly recommend that you use tweezers.
Apply your topcoat.

Step 4:
Using your angled or makeup brush, dip it in acetone or nail polish remover and clean up around your nail bed and anywhere else you might have stray polish - if you're me, usually all down your fingers! ;)
Result should look something like this:

I've got to get a new camera as this one refuses to take the right colours!  I swear my darker green looks greener than it does here.  Anyhoo, why not try your own colour combinations, maybe even try some clashing colours like blue and orange? I'd love to see what you can come up with!
You can email me your versions at jerkingabnormalagony@gmail.com
I'd love to hear from you...
